Rivera

Project Rivera was an environmental initiative aimed at preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of the Madu River in Balapitiya. The project was successfully conducted on 25th February 2026, bringing together dedicated volunteers for a two-hour river cleanup activity focused on reducing pollution and promoting environmental sustainability.
The initiative was led by Project Chairpersons Rtr. Linal Gunawardana and Rtr. Nimansha Weerarathne, alongside the Environmental Service Avenue Directors Rtr. Dinadi Ranaweera and Rtr. Sasindu Nisal. Their leadership and coordination played a vital role in organizing and executing the project effectively.
The cleanup activity was conducted through a boat-based effort along the Madu River, where volunteers actively collected plastic waste and other debris from the water and surrounding riverbanks. This direct action contributed to reducing pollution in the river while supporting the protection of the ecosystem and wildlife habitats within the area.
Project Rivera not only improved the environmental condition of the river but also raised awareness about the importance of preserving natural waterways. The initiative highlighted the value of community engagement and youth-led action in addressing environmental challenges.
Through teamwork, dedication, and the support of volunteers and partners, Project Rivera was successfully completed and made a meaningful contribution to environmental conservation efforts.
The organizing team extends its sincere gratitude to all participants and supporters whose involvement made the project both impactful and memorable.
